Job Duties: Responsibilities include: carrying out repairs on and trouble-shooting, installation, and servicing of navigation and communication (navcom) equipment on marine vessels of various specifications to ensure delivery of correct outputs within defined parameters, guidelines and frameworks; integrating, assembling, configuring, programming and commissioning navcom equipment; reviewing wiring diagrams, block diagrams, general arrangements and design calculations for verification against specs; identifying and conducting root‐cause‐analyses of equipment failures during testing, commissioning and maintenance of systems; and making on-the-spot proper modifications to navcom equipment in the field when unexpected issues arise while adhering to societal classification requirements, such as Lloyd’s Register, Det Norske Veritas, American Bureau of Shipping Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Bureau Veritas, Korean Register, and RiINA. Must be able to work at multiple, unanticipated worksite locations. Domestic travel required 90% of the time.
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering or closely related field, or foreign equivalent
Experience Requirements: Three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of practical deep-sea engineering service experience in new build or retrofit shipbuilding, offshore oil and gas rigs or refineries, or military-related industries performing each of the following duties: Completing regulatory and preventive maintenance on navigation and communications installations across various vessels, adhering to NEMA, fiber optics, and networking protocols; Maintaining and troubleshooting navcom equipment including radars, Echo Sounders, AIS, GMDSS, ECDIS, autopilots, VSAT and Gyrocompass; and Investigating complaints and conducting root-cause analyses on navcom equipment to identify and resolve issues. Must have demonstrable knowledge of the following: SOLAS, IMO, IACS and ABS regulations; circuit board theory with an emphasis on Printed Circuit Boards, processors and chips, electronic equipment, differential equations relevant to electrical circuits, electrical circuit theory, and electrical schematics. Must also possess the following up-to-date OEM Trainings and regulatory credentials: Furuno, Simrad, JRC, Tokyo Kekii, Yokogawa, Danelec, and Sperry, TWIC, FCC Radio License, GMDSS Maintainer. Must be able to work at multiple, unanticipated worksite locations. Domestic travel required 90% of the time.
The following up-to-date OEM Trainings and regulatory credentials: Furuno, Simrad, JRC, Tokyo Kekii, Yokogawa, Danelec, and Sperry, TWIC, FCC Radio License, GMDSS Maintainer License.
