The Radio Holland, powered by Retina AutoPilot is a sophisticated ship navigation system. It features a robust safety mechanism that automatically reverts to manual control if communication with the DP interface is interrupted or fails.
Retina Autopilot Operating Modes
AutoPilot Mode: Functions similarly to traditional autopilots but with enhanced awareness of engine speed, maintaining a consistent Rate of Turn (ROT) regardless of RPM, simplifying and stabilizing navigation adjustments.
Way-Dependent Mode: Mirrors a traditional autopilot’s operation where the rudder or propeller angles directly correspond with the tiller’s position.
Manoeuvre Mode: The system fully controls the ship’s movements, similar to dynamic positioning systems used in offshore applications. The helmsman can adjust desired directions and speeds using handles for forward/aft and lateral movements and a rotation knob for rotational direction. This mode resembles operating a camera drone, where the autopilot manages complex stabilizations and adjustments.
